Description

Author: Paul the Deacon

Translated from Latin by Krasimira Gagova

The fourth book in the Medieval Europe series introduces the Bulgarian reader to the Lombards – one of the Germanic tribes who set out from the North to seek new lands to settle. They travel widely to reach the Apennine Peninsula, where they establish yet another state on the ruins of the Empire and the perished Ostrogothic Kingdom. Defeated by the Franks, they lose their kingdom, but their duchies continue to exist long after. In the end, their legacy would be the toponym Lombardy and the obligation that each of the future Holy Roman Empire emperors should receive the iron Lombard crown before the imperial anointing.
