Authors: Einhard / Nithard
Translated from latin by Krasimira Gagova
This book in the Medieval Europe series presents the works of two authors who complement each other in their account of the foundation and destruction of Charlemagne’s Empire.
Einhard was part of Charlemagne’s circle and is better known as his biographer, having written The Life of Charlemagne, while Annals offers a broader view of the era, covering events not reflected in the biography.
Nithard was a grandson of Charlemagne and an intimate of another of his grandsons, Charles the Bald. An active participant in the events of the division of the once glorious empire between the warring heirs, he faithfully describes them for future generations in his A History in Four Books.
